Assisting was Phil Allen, Station Manger at Littlebrook Power Station
Thursday 24th April 2008. Littlebrook Power Station, Littlebrook Manorway, Refreshments for this event were courtesy of RWE npower, many thanks to them! Littlebrook is an oil-fired power station with 3 main units which, at 685 MWs each are the largest in the country. Generation at the site is also supported by 6 Olympus gas turbines. The station is located in Dartford Kent on south bank of the River Thames next to the Queen Elizabeth 2 Bridge and the Dartford Tunnel. The itinerary will be a brief tour of the power station. During the tour the visitor will gain an understanding of the processes involved in the generation of electricity in a thermal plant and will have an opportunity to see various parts of the process including boilers, turbines and the control room. This will then be followed by a presentation on "Electricity generation present and future". At a time of increasing environmental pressure on the industry the presentation will review the current profile of electricity generation in the country, progressing through the challenges and drivers for the industry and the effect of these on the possible future generation of electricity in the UK. For a brochure on the power station please click here. A history on of power generation on the site can be found in the Dartford Archives by clicking here.
