Café Scientifique is a free and open forum for debating science and technology issues, not a shop window for science. We are committed to promoting public engagement with science and technology and making it accountable.

The meetings are normally held on the last Thursday of every month, where everyone, over a drink and a bite to eat (all free) can chat about any scientific issue in a friendly and informal setting.

The only qualification needed to join in is an interest in anything scientific.  Also, at every meeting there is a talk by a leading scientist or engineer.  Please see our Events page for details of fast and future talks.

If you would like to attend, please contact Dawn on 01322 312 000.

Next Event:  Automatic Number Plate Recognition
The next event is on 25th September 2008 at the Nucleus, doors open 6:45pm for a 7:30pm start.

With the ever increasing surveillance society we live in, technology in this field is increasing at a rapid rate, amongst which is Automatic Number Plate Recognition.  This is used on many of our roads from congestion charge administration in London to average speed traps along stretches of the A2, to surveillance of cars along our motorways by the security services.  Where will this end, where is the data held and how is it used.  This event will be your chance to ask these questions.

The Forum

Here at the Dartford Café, we have our own on-line discussion
forum for all to contribute to the meetings pre and post event.
